Asclera treats uncomplicated varicose veins in the lower extremities. Once injected, Asclera closes the veins and they practically disappear in front of your eyes. According to a study published in the June issue of Phlebology, Asclera is a proven, effective treatment for sclerotherapy and has demonstrated efficacy over other vein removal treatment options. The injection is generally well tolerated and has received a high patient satisfaction rating.
Spider veins are similar to varicose veins in structure, but are much smaller and typically begin as tiny capillaries. They may be blue, purple or red in color, and typically appear on the surface of the calves, ankles, thighs, and sometimes on the face. These veins typically appear in a pattern that looks like small branches on a tree, but may also be linear and appear as thin, separate lines.
Varicose veins are veins that have become enlarged and tortuous. Besides cosmetic problems, varicose veins are often painful, especially when standing or walking. They often itch, and scratching them can cause ulcers.
How common are abnormal leg veins?
About 50 to 55 percent of women and 40 to 45 percent of men in the United States suffer from some type of vein problem. Varicose veins affect half of people 50 years and older.
In more detail...
The traditional surgical treatment has been vein stripping to remove the affected veins. Asclera Injections is a revolutionary treatment that can treat varicose veins without the surgery!
Asclera Injections is an in-office procedure, usually we break it in 45-min sessions, depending on the severity and type of veins being treated. In most cases, only one treatment is needed and, in some cases, several treatments may be required. This type of treatment can be slightly painful, but Asclera has proven to cause less pain than traditional treatments.
Asclera Injections is the most common treatment for both spider veins and varicose veins. Dr. Hanna uses a needle to inject a liquid chemical into the vein. The chemical causes the vein walls to swell, stick together, and seal shut. This stops the flow of blood. In a few weeks, the vein should fade. This treatment does not require anesthesia and done in our office. You can return to normal activity right after the treatment.
The same vein may need to be treated more than once. Treatments are usually done every 4 to 6 weeks. You may be asked to wear gradient compression stockings after sclerotherapy to help with healing and decrease swelling.
In each particular case Dr. Hanna suggests what is the best treatment for the patient. Sometimes, we use the combination of injections and laser vein removal. Please watch the video how the injections work.
